Pulse-Doppler radar measurements of debris flows: High-resolution monitoring of surge dynamics from two events in the Gadria Creek (Italy)

As a consequence of their spontaneous occurrence, and frequent formation multiple surges with high sediment loads, debris flows are considered one the most hazardous gravity-driven mass movements in montane regions. Field measurements surface velocities an essential link chain understanding fundamental process dynamics applied protection against flows. In order to measure consecutive within single debris-flow event, PD radar (pulse-Doppler high-frequency radar) sensor for high-resolution real-time monitoring has been developed. this contribution we present two flows, that occurred at Gadria creek Italy on July 26, 2019, August 10, 2020, over torrent length 250 meters.
